3E: Can you tell us your name and the company you’re here to represent?

SR: Hi, I’m Scott Rawlings, I’m from HP Inc. and I head up Commercial VR Go-To-Market.

3E: What is HP bringing to VRX?

SR: One of the things I wanted to do was share with the group some of the things that we’re looking at as an industry. What are the challenges that we need to solve in the next near term, like collaboration, enhancing immersion, the role that artificial intelligence (AI) and deep learning will play, especially in augmented reality (AR) and mixed reality (MR) use cases.

3E: What VR solutions does HP offer?

SR: One of the areas that we’re really focused on is training and simulation. It’s a broad opportunity area for HP Commercial XR. We have partnered with two companies formerly, one is Pixo VR and the other is Disti. What makes Pixo VR special is that they’re solely focused on workplace safety, OSHA-type training situations, and they also have a really excellent training platform.

3E: What trends in XR are you seeing?

SR: The thing that really impresses me about the XR space is that we frequently run into customers who are ready, but the technology hasn’t quite got there yet. So it’s a market that’s really ripe for adopting the technology, once the technology is good enough. We can’t get augmented and mixed reality solutions to market fast enough. So that’s an area that’s been lagging a little bit, technology-wise, in terms of how good it is, and it being adequate to to form a complete use-case solution. At HP, we’ve been really focused right now on selling VR today because it is good enough, and I’m super excited about where we’re going to be taking VR in this next year.
