3E: Can you tell us your name and about the company you’re here to represent?

TR: My name is Tyrone Rubin. I’m the founder of SenseVirtual. We are Africa’s largest virtual reality and augmented reality solutions and experience-creating company.

3E: What makes SenseVirtual unique?

TR: So what makes us unique is we’ve capitalized on South Africa’s unique talent because we were the first to identify people who were exploring Unity and animation, and people who were interested in exploring this new technology of 360-degree video. We’ve been able to connect the dots in South Africa to, thankfully, form the largest VR and AR studios.

3E: Can you provide a specific use-case example?

TR: Most of our jobs have been in the marketing activation space, where brands want to use this sexy, new technology to blow their clients away at trade shows, at in-store activations. Recently for Beyer we created this game where it allowed participants to fly through the human body, select good foods and bad foods, to create a result at the end with scores, and they built these beautiful pods, and we created this great experience using the Oculus Rift. We ported it to Samsung Gear for people who were waiting in line, and yeah, it was taking a quite boring healthcare lesson and making it exciting.

3E: What trends excite you?

TR: One of the biggest shifts we have seen is the awareness of this new technology. So, awareness is one big trend we see, and we’re not going into meetings trying to educate people. They already know about it. The trend we are seeing now, is people trying to figure out, in South Africa, how to use it to either make a cool, fun experience for their clients, or a bigger trend we are seeing is mining companies and engineering companies actually in South Africa using it to get real results.
