The Extended Reality (XR) enterprise made further progress last week. BSI Solutions, a software company out of North Carolina, announced its latest project in the works. A simulated reality training module titled Virtual Criminal Investigation Solution (VCIS) allows law enforcement trainees to interact with a virtual crime scene environment in order to immerse them into realistic scenarios despite social distancing restrictions. They can interact with data, evidence, and suspects all within a simulated environment, providing them an experience that was thought to only be available in person prior.  The benefits of XR crime scene investigation training extend beyond the realm of Covid-19, however. For decades law enforcement has grappled with the problems of in-person training. These issues include, but are not limited to evidence tampering, crime scene corruption, exceeding costs, and low productivity. Providing trainees with simulated training through VR headsets handles all of these problems in a safe controlled environment. The application of simulated reality to the world of law enforcement is yet another example of how XR solutions are becoming more prevalent for training in enterprise, private and public sectors.
