During the September 12th Carolina Panthers vs the New York Jets NFL game, a special AR event was shown off showcasing the Panther’s mascot prowling around the stadium. This was done in collaboration with The Famous Group who had done a similar project in 2019 with the Baltimore Ravens.
While the Carolina Panthers won their match against the New York Jets, the AR spectacle has garnered over 5 million views on their Twitter post promoting it, clearly showing what really got the people’s attention. Many comments on the Twitter post offered various amounts of intrigue at the panther with one even bringing up a comparison to a Back to the Future scene with Jaws : https://twitter.com/VzrZack/status/1437104369523175428?s=20
While those attending in person didn’t get to see an actual virtual panther prance about, it was on display on the stadium screens as well as broadcast live to viewers at home. Using a virtual recreation of the stadium the team at The Famous Group animated the panther on the recreated stadium before injecting the panther onto a live feed for a mixed reality experience.
With the amount of discussion from fans of either the Carolina Panthers or just viewers of the experience, it’s important for businesses to look towards integrating novel experiences into their content if only to make them more memorable.
