Travel just got even more interesting with SmartGuide, a free augmented reality (AR) travel app designed to give users a private audio tour of any travel destination. The award winning app claims to gamify travel, making learning about new places even more engaging with things like AR knights.
SmartGuide also uses geolocation to pinpoint user’s travel stops, and delivers audio information curated by professional guides as your tour though your destination. It currently covers 40 destinations, and is the official guide of Prague and the most popular guide app in Cambodia.
This disruption of the tourism industry saves time, effort, resources, and equipment for all involved. Museums and other locations looking to give tourists information have to continuously print travel brochures or booklets, or purchase expensive audio equipment that needs to be maintained, collected, and charged. But with SmartGuide, all of these costs are mitigated tot he phone that tourists already have, and users get to experience all of the insider knowledge of a guided tour with none of the previous hassle.
Jan Dolezal, CEO and co-founder, said that SmartGuide hopes within the next year to “expand into 300 destinations, enhance the technology and to build up strategic partnerships with attractions, tour operators, transportation companies and other partners whose customers benefit from a modern guide,”
With over 10,000 downloads on the Android store alone, SmartGuide is shaking up to be a game changer in the AR tourism scene.
