On Monday, Oculus announced that Link, its compatibility software for Quest users to play on PC, has entered the beta phase. Quest users with a supported GPU can plug their headset into a PC to use the Oculus desktop app, allowing Quest users to play PC-quality virtual reality (VR) games as they would with a Rift or Rift S.

While the beta testing has proven promising, the one catch is that Link requires a USB 3 cord that’s ideally long enough for unencumbered use. Anticipating this, Oculus plans to also offer USB 3 cords that are 5 metres long and custom made for use with Oculus Link. These cords are supposed to be released later this year. Oculus also hopes to extend Link to all compatible PCs and AMD GPU Quest headsets in the near future.

Oculus made the Quest headset available earlier this year as a happy medium between the Oculus Go and the Oculus Rift, balancing “Rift-quality experiences” with the consumer-friendly aspect of the Go. Now, with the anticipation of Link, Oculus Quest users will be able to get in on the same PC action as Rift users.
