Shortly after their State of the Play broadcast, Sony revealed on their blog that the company has sold more than 4.2 million PlayStation VR (PSVR) units globally as of March 3rd, 2019. While the PSVR has been on the market since October 2016, the PlayStation 4 (PS4) accessory has been selling strong. These sales owe many thanks to consistent, high-quality games, strong headset design and performance, and price reductions. The fact that consumers can use their existing PS4s to power the headset instead of an expensive gaming PC sweetens the deal, as well (a strategy that Nintendo is using with Labo Kit VR).

Though rumors of a PSVR 2 are floating around (especially in conjunction with the inevitable PlayStation 5), Sony is doubling down on the upcoming PSVR lineup through regular updates and sales figures – suggesting that they’re perfectly content with how their virtual reality (VR) platform is shaping up.
