Jeff Wayne’s The War of the Worlds Musical will be transformed into an immersive mixed reality (MR) experience presented by dotdotdot [sic] London. The experience can be described as steampunk stage play meets haunted house: groups of up to 12 visitors will be brought into the Old Metal Exchange in London, where they will be given the chance to “live through the Martian invasion of 1898,” according to dotdotdot’s website.

“It’s incredible to work with dotdotdot,” said Jeff Wayne, composer and producer of the show. “Taking my Musical Version of ‘The War of The Worlds’ and turning it into a virtual reality experience is groundbreaking, and I can’t wait to ‘live’ it myself.”

The experience will combine immersive theatre, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), holograms, and other emerging technology, with both virtual and physical actors guiding audience members through locations from the classic story. dotdotdot promises to bring “a new and unique experience to each guest” during the nearly two hour run time of each show.

The event opens Friday, May 31st (with previews beginning on Saturday, May 18th), and starts at £64.50 ($48.89 USD). Please note that the show is recommended for those over the age of twelve, and not recommended for those with some disabilities, such as breathing or respiratory problems, or mobility issues.
