Andrew Leshin from Mad Studios tells us about himself and what he’s impressed by at VRX Boston 2018. The following is a transcript of our interview with him.

3E: So tell us about Mad Studios and what makes you unique.

AL: My name is Andrew Leshin, I’m a partner at MAD. We build digital products primarily in virtual reality, augmented reality, and we also build mobile applications and proprietary software. The company for the last ten years or so has worked heavily in the telecom space, also in the start up consumer space, so helping start ups pretty much build their initial software solution or there initial mobile application. But in regards to augmented reality and virtual reality, we’ve really found kind of a nitch in both products in the automotive space and for healthcare training as well. We’ve really found a sweet spot in getting to know sort of the nitty gritty things that go into building training environments for those particular industries. In regards to the healthcare industry, I’ve learned what a tricky industry it definitely is, and that the devil is in the details. Making sure that you log and keep track of all of the nuances that go into taking care of an actual human being is important in real life and just as important when creating an experience. Or else, it doesn’t work.

3E: What have you seen at VRX that excites you and why?

AL: I’m really excited about haptic touch – so the ability to create experiences that no longer are incapable of feeling something physical. Primarily I’m talking about hands, so being able to grab something is really exciting for the industry. I think the turnout’s a really good crop of people. I think the speakers have been really interesting, and yeah, the networking has been great as well. I’ve met some really nice folks. I was just talking to a vendor right over there, and they were showing me their product, and I’m impressed with what they showed.
