One Hamsa, creator of the VR game Racket: NX, recently unveiled that they have officially been endorsed by the International Racquetball Federation (IRF). They plan to submit the game to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) via the recently created Olympics Virtual Sports Series program

Racket: NX was endorsed by the IRF for its gameplay involving hitting virtual targets on a wall with a ball and paddle. Players must precisely aim and hit the positive goals while avoiding ball traps and targets that negatively affect their score. The game studio envisions 3 disciplines for the game, playing solo, playing in co-op, or playing head to head in a score attack style game.

While Racket: NX is endorsed by the IRF, it’s up to the IOC to accept it. Like other games such as chess and bowling, the game can be officially recognized by them but not accepted for the main Olympic events. It would have to first be played widely across the globe as well as passing determination by the IOC’s executive board.

In a time when last year’s Olympics was postponed, and this year’s Olympics facing headwinds, it’s interesting to see what could be the future of the Olympics in VR. For a taste of what may be the future, Racket: NX is available both for PC VR and standalone VR
