As part of their “smarter business initiative,” Lenovo announced at their annual Accelerate commercial business convention the launch of their ThinkReality A6 headset and platform, designed to provide augmented reality (AR) tools to enterprise workers.

“The ThinkReality platform enables users to pin, interact, and collaborate with 3D digital information in the real world, improving their contextual awareness and efficiency,” said the company in a press release. “The platform is device and cloud agnostic, making it easy for enterprise customers to adopt and manage AR and VR [virtual reality] software applications across multiple operating systems, cloud services, and devices.”

As the first hardware entry into the ThinkReality brand, here are the specs ThinkReality A6:

  • Weight
    • 380 grams (0.83 pounds)
  • Field of View
    • 40 degrees diagonally
  • Resolution
    • 1080p per eye
  • Processor
    • Snapdragon 845
  • Operating System
    • Android
  • Special Features
    • Lumus waveguide optics
    • Intel Movidius Vision Processing Unit

In addition to the launch of the A6, Lenovo announced ThinkIoT, a partnership with Microsoft with the Azure platform to provide IoT (internet of things) services to their consumers. Whether this service will be integrated with the ThinkReality platform at all has not been confirmed, however.

While not their first foray in the AR world, Lenovo’s entry into the enterprise AR market signals competition with Microsoft’s own HoloLens 2, who recently announced ambitious developments for their AR headset. Though the enterprise AR space has been heating up for some time, with companies like Apple, Google, and Huawei prepping to enter the space, Lenovo’s experience and clout in the business community could prove beneficial to furthering how AR can better help companies become more efficient entities.
